Injury Averted
By Sue Greenwald
I was cutting bagels with an extremely sharp knife. The knife slipped, and sliced deeply into the end of my thumb. I felt it going into the thumb and thought “I’m going to be in trouble here”. I grabbed the wound tightly and pressed it tightly together, jumping and hopping around the kitchen. This was an extremely sharp knife, and had gone deeply into the middle of my thumb, not just a surface scratch.
After a while I let go of the wound, and… it was gone. There wasn’t evidence of any injury at all to my thumb, other than the redness caused by me holding it so tightly. My kids, who’d witnessed the whole event, didn’t believe that I’d felt the knife slicing into my thumb! They thought the whole thing was a joke staged just for them.
